Upcycling Program



At Green Guru Gear, we collect and upcycle old worn out gear like bike inner tubes, climbing ropes, wetsuits, banners and more through our partners and directly with you. At participating bike shops, outfitters, climbing gyms, surf shops, and community partners, you can find our upcycling bins, which divert still-useful materials from local landfills. By choosing to upcycle your old gear, we can sustainably keep thousands of pounds of materials out of waste streams and give a second life to gear as upcycled Green Guru Gear.

We would rather you get the most out of your materials before we help you upcycle them. If it is a bike tube, consider patching it. However, if it is worn out or dangerous to use, we want to help give it a second life.

*If there is little to no material left due to heavy use or it is in a state of tatters, we may be unable to use it, so please check if it can be used before sending it in.

Please send a picture of your materials (if they are not bike tubes) to recycling@greengurugear.com, and we will let you know if we can take and use your materials!

In return for sending us still-functional materials, you will receive a discount code for new gear via email. Please be sure to include your email address when sending in materials to be upcycled.

Shipping Instructions*

As for shipping, we suggest USPS Medium or Large Flat Rate Box crammed with the approved material(s) that you may have.

If you have a larger volume, we suggest UPS Ground or FedEx

You can utilize your existing business account for the shipping carrier of your preference.

First-class shipping may be a more cost-effective method for small volumes, but we recommend collecting and sending more items per shipment to increase efficiency.

PLEASE NOTE:

We do not cover the shipping costs of materials to us. 

If you are sending bike tubes, please ensure none have slime on or in them - this can ruin a whole load of tubes.

Please cut the tubes at the valve with scissors, which will help them pack more easily. If you cut the tube and it has goop in it - Slime, Stanz, etc. Throw it away; these tubes can contaminate other good tubes when stored in the same container.

Please, No wetsuit booties, gloves, slime tubes, thorn-resistant rubber scrap pieces (e.g., rim tape, handlebar grips, etc.).
