At Green Guru Gear, we're a team of dedicated outdoor enthusiasts who work to create change in the outdoor and cycling sports industries. We know that most outdoor gear designed for outdoor activities can cause environmental harm. Instead of stopping to play outside, we've decided to manufacture our own products in a more eco-responsible way.
Born in 2005, Green Guru Gear uses old outdoor gear that would otherwise end up in landfills to create new adventure gear. All Green Guru Gear started as something else, like bike tubes, wetsuits, and billboard materials. By keeping these valuable materials out of landfills, we can act with a good conscience.
The word “upcycle,” as it’s called at Green Guru, begins with products obtained mostly from “recycling stations.” Local bike and outdoor shops offer incentives to customers who donate used gear before purchasing new products. Companies like REI, Patagonia, and Sea World, and organizations like Outward Bound, donate their leftover materials, defective gear, and old bike tubes to help us build Green Guru Gear.
The donated goods then go to the Green Guru warehouse in Boulder, where they are processed and sorted, and then sewn into finished products locally. By making Green Guru Gear close to home, we support the local economy while protecting the environment as much as possible.
By donating waste materials and buying our products, consumers can be part of the upcycling process and help the environment by reusing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Green Guru aims to effect real change through greener practices. By using used bike inner tubes, wetsuits, and climbing rope, Green Guru closes the loop in the traditional product life cycle and lets outdoor products live a new life. Years of design and experimentation have enabled the company to grow from a small group of designs into a catalog of performance-oriented products that exceed social, quality, and sustainability standards.
Sustainability
Our business is built on a foundation of sustainable actions. We ask difficult questions about processes and create real solutions that help us reduce waste and raise efficiency. This process benefits our organization and our business partners on many levels.
As the amount of materials we reclaim, jobs we create, and products we manufacture increases, we can realize positive social, environmental, and economic change by building an organization with the foundation needed to flourish into our future.
We are B-Corp certified and have gold-level status with the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program.
